When you enter the front door, the sanctuary is immediately to your left.

 

Childcare is available for both services and Sunday School.  When you enter the front door, the childcare room is down the stairs to your right.  It’s at the end of that hallway, through the double doors, on the right hand side.

Children aged newborn and up are welcome in the nursery and childcare room.

 

 

At SWUMC, we believe that God looks at the heart, not at what we wear.  Therefore, we dress casual.  You may find some people wearing a dress or tie, but you will find that most people wear either casual dress pants, blue jeans, or shorts.

 

 

The contemporary service begins at 8:15 a.m. and the traditional service begins at 10:30 a.m.  The main difference between the two services is the music. 

The contemporary service includes upbeat and modern praise songs with the lyrics displayed on a large projector screen at the front of the sanctuary.  The traditional service includes mostly classic hymns sung from the hymnal books.  The services usually last about one hour each.

Sunday School takes place in between the two services.  It begins at 9:30 a.m. and usually lasts about one hour. 

 

There are no exclusively United Methodist doctrines.  Although we have distinctive emphases, we have no affirmations that are not also believed by other Christian groups. United Methodists have traditionally proclaimed the following emphases:

 

· The availability of God’s grace for all;

· The essential unity of faith and works;

· Salvation as personal and social;

· The church as a community of Christ’s disciples who seek to share in God’s mission;

· The inseparability of knowledge (intellect) and vital piety (devotion to religious duties and practices) as components of faith;

· Seeking holiness of heart and life both as individuals and in our society;

· A cooperative ministry and mission in the world, often referred to as “connectionalism;”

· The link between Christian doctrine and Christian living.
